Savannah Cats

Savannah cats are one of the physically biggest breed of cat on our planet. While the normal weight of savannah cats is about 12 to 20 pounds. Certainly higher weight savannah cats have been reported by different breeders. The size depends upon the generation and usually males are a lot bigger then the other generation of savannah cats.

The different generations of savannah are referred to as f(n) (where n is the generation number i.e. 1, 2,3,4,5…) The savannah breed originally came into existence by crossing African Serval Cat to a domestic cat. The result was a bigger better and beautiful breed. The drawback of this breeding is that the first four generations do not reproduce and must be breaded exclusively by cat breeders. That’s why only a handful of breeders have savannah cats first 4 generations.

The reproduction cycle starts from generation f5 onwards. Because of the rarity of this breed, the savannah cat and kittens are very high priced and can be thought of as a status symbol among families. The coat of Savannah Cats is quite beautiful as it has dark spots on lighter color making them look beautiful. Other possibilities of coat color are Tan coat with brownish spots or silver coat with dark spots or marble patterns. Due to this the savannah cats are quite attractive to watch.

The overall look and fell of Savannah Cats is quite depended upon the generation. Some of the generations have a wild look because the presence of Servel characteristics that exist because of crossing with this breed as they cannot reproduce themselves until generation f5. Nevertheless the common characteristics are color markings on skin and tall erect ears. As mentioned earlier the bodies of Savannah Cats are huge and leggy and they also possess a long neck and a big head.

The tail is short with black rings and a tip that extends many inches. Savannah kittens have blue eyes and as they grow into adults, the color becomes green. The Savannah Cats are very friendly and one of the biggest quality is that they can be trained like dogs and do almost every thing that a dog can perform including fetching the ball or opening doors and drawers. They can even train to walk like dogs. Savannah cats are very faithful and they can be compared to dogs with this quality.

The Savannah kittens if trained from the childhood can become much attached to their owners and follows them around the places. They are very friendly with fellow cats and dogs. Because of their intelligent nature the owners have to keep an eye on the kitten’s activities as they try to do several things as a human does. Cat breeders usually breed f1 and f2 breeds and are for sale in very few places. Savannah cats are known to be available for sale in sates like Georgia and California.
