Cats Anatomy

Keeping knowledge about cat’s Anatomy is not only important for veterinarian surgeons, but as a Pet owner, some one must also keep awareness about anatomy of their loving cat and this need becomes more important when we are keeping cat as a pet as cat is really a sensitive animal. Cats are carnivores (meat eaters) and have become highly adapted predators.

Cats are also classified as mammals like humans. Like other mammals, female cat anatomy seems different then male cats not only externally but also internally. Due to this distinction, female cats feed their young ones with their maternal milk. While analyzing anatomy of cat skeleton , we can clearly judge that although cats have approximately same number of bones as human but with difference that they are shaped differently and seems to become highly adapted to meet the cat’s needs as a predator.

Cat has got very elastic spines for increased agility – making them to jump and to move fast. This flexibility and strength of their joints allows them to jump down even from huge buildings without injury and their long tails help them to keep a balance in their movement. While praising cat’s external anatomy, we can’t ignore cat’s pleasing skin with its velvet like fur. A cat’s skin seems to be much loosely attached to the underlying flesh and muscles as compare to humans, so it further increases cat’s flexibility.

Fur at cat’s skin seems important to keep the cat’s internal temperature at neatly a constant level. Sometimes cat’s external anatomy helps her to keep herself away of hunters. For example, in wild cat’s external anatomy, fur plays an important role to provide her protection as coat colors seems to be affected by the cat’s surrounding environment. Similarly undomesticated cats with different tabby coats are more likely to survive and reproduce as their coat color provide camouflage from larger predators and improve their hunting success.

Cat has been blessed with large and sensitive ears. Though cat’s ear anatomy is quite similar to humans but they differ as they can move them easily. This ear moving capability helps them to pinpoint the origin of even faint sounds. So Cats like dogs are included among sharp listening mammals that can make responses sharply according to whatever they hear. Cat’s jumping strength is due to its specially designed cat muscles anatomy.

Theses muscles are arranged in such formation that makes them to get fit in for jumping that help her not only to be a successful prey capturing animal but also to keep herself secure. Any body interested in understanding cat’s anatomy should try to learn cat anatomy by consulting Cat anatomy charts and cat anatomy diagrams that are specially designed to make great awareness about cat’s internal and external anatomy.
